John Ramsey is a reporter for
The Rocky Mount Telegram in Rocky Mount, N.C. He has covered various topics since he started in May, ranging from city council to small-town events
in Nash and Edgecombe Counties.
Ramsey will earn his degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
in August 2005. He worked for a year as a reporter for the university desk at
The Daily Tar Heel, the University's campus newspaper.
Ramsey achieved his lifelong dream of attending UNC in the fall of 2001 after graduating from Chase High School in Forest
City, N.C.
Ramsey plans to develop his resume for a year or two in Rocky Mount before moving to a larger newspaper. The Rocky Mount
Telegram circulates to about 14,000 customers.
He takes pride in his wit and his attention to detail in writing. He hopes one day his style will be compared
to Ernest Hemingway, Rick Reilly or Oscar Wilde.
Ramsey began studying the feasibility of blogs as legitimate news sources in the spring of 2005. He keeps a
personal blog filled with random thoughts and links, but may soon start blogging for his newspaper.
Ramsey finds humor in nearly every situation and loves to argue philosophically about any topic.
